Alan D. Gishlick has a Ph.D. in Vertebrate Paleontology from the Department of Geology and Geophysics at Yale University. Dr. Gishlick's research interests include functional transitions in the history of life, particularly the origin of avian flight within dinosaurs; the reconstruction of soft anatomy in fossils; systematics, taxonomy, and their role in concepts of biological identity and their uses in interpreting patterns of evolution; the teaching of the history of life; and the interface between science and religion, especially as it relates to biological evolution.
